Food Needs Water to Grow…
With all the chaos happening in the wake of food prices consistently increasing, it should come as little surprise that, in India at least, another issue is arising that will severely limit out food production even more so. According to an article posted on organicconsumers.org, “experts say the depletion of groundwater is a major threat to food security and economic stability in India, China, the United States, Mexico, Spain and North Africa. In China, the agricultural use of groundwater has skyrocketed, causing water tables to drop in many places by a rate of 5 feet a year.”
This is definitely worrisome information, especially since water is a rare and depleted commodity all over the world, and it is a resource that is irreplaceable. Conserve, conserve, conserve, and if we work together perhaps we can head off disaster.
