The Conundrum of Food Prices!
We who must eat to stay alive are issuing a cry of assistance to the powers-that-be that our food prices simply must go down. With gas already climbing the price range, our pocket books are crying out for help even when we don’t have the additional stress and anguish of having a home become foreclosed or some-such devastation.
It’s a double-edged sword, of course, because the food price increase is largely due to the growth of crops in attempts to create bio-fuel so that we can lessen our dependence on oil and eventually get rid of it altogether. The fact that our United States president does not seem to understand, however, is that eventually we WILL run out of oil. There is a set amount of oil in the world and eventually it will run out because there is no way to replenish it. So as he blames Congress and rallies about opening up ANWAR to drilling (the area of Alaska that Congress has stated must be protected to conserve the environment) he seems to forget that this will only be a temporary fix that will forever mar what little bits of nature we still have left in this world.
Back to the topic at hand, however, there is still a struggle between food prices and the good reason behind why food prices are rising. Land is scarce - developers, you can pat yourselves on the back for that one as can capitalist America as a whole for insisting that happiness exists in things such as enormous tract-houses wherein each of a family’s many children can have their own expansive bedroom - and land able to sustain crops must now be divided between bio-fuels and edible foods.
The conundrum continues.
