And the Food Crisis Continues
With the skyrocketing prices of gasoline and now of food, it seems to be eerily apparent that this world crisis - namely of food - is hurting a log of our world’s citizens. The worst part of this situation, however, is that global agribusiness firms, traders and speculators are raking in huge profits, which is nothing if not insulting and more than a little bit depressing for the rest of us.
Much of the news coverage of this food crisis has focused on riots in low-income countries and while these are indeed problematic instances, there are a select few who are making giant gains from everyone’s else’s pain, from Cargill - who is the world’s largest grain trader - to Bunge, which is another huge food trader.
