Mom Say Eat Your Oatmeal
And whatever happened to that good old-fashioned oatmeal that mom and grandma always used to insist we eat? “Sticks to your ribs” they would say, and so we dutifully shoveled it into our mouths, yours truly feeling it stuck to her throat as I struggled to swallow it down.
And this is certainly not a protein source, this is undeniably a carbohydrate - a whole bowl of carbohydrates. Yet these, we are reassured, are healty carbs, as they are whole grains, they are much more fibrous and beneficial than the white sugars that are found in bagels, most sugar-heavy cereals and the like.
So, for a filling breakfast that is more filling than my trust apple, oatmeal can at least stand on its own two feet. Yet, oatmeal still requires hot water, a bowl and a spoon. Many more pieces of equipment than my trust apple-in-a-bag method. Let me keep looking.
