soybeansSoybeans have played a special role in certain cultures for years, and those of us who just enjoy them as a tasty mid-day (or mid-night) snack (or meal) can also very much appreciate their protein rich nutrients and delightful taste. However, apparently our dear soybeans are experiencing some trouble abroad - soaring prices to be exact - and you had better believe that the foods’ supporters are doing what they can to voice their discontent.

Last week, on Monday, January 14 according to organicconsumers.com, “10,000 Indonesians demonstrated outside the presidential palace in Jakarta after soybean prices soared more than 50 per cent in the past month and 125 per cent over the past year, leaving huge shortages in markets. And while the social unrest has not yet spread to other Asian nations, consumer frustrations are mounting.”

Whatever is causing this shortage of the soy product delight, keep your fingers crossed that our friends in Indonesia and beyond will soon be able to afford their cherished soybeans soon.
