Just What is Your Baby Eating?
An investigation has been launched into the use and the safety of a chemical that is found in many children’s and infant products, including the lining of cans of liquid infant formula. A little scary to any mother or grandmother, aunt or older cousin, young or old, who has a new bundle of joy in their lives. To be sure, there are a million things that new mothers fear when it comes to their babies, will they break their child by hugging it too tightly? By giving it a bath too roughly? The one constant - besides others’ helpful tips and techniques, constantly given albeit out of love - has been that the baby food purchased on grocery store shelves have been used by babies and new mothers for years and so surely must be safe.
Not so much anymore, leading one to muse, yet again, that everyone must look out for themselves, hunt grocery stores for organic formulas if they exist, and do everything possible to make sure baby eats the best that the natural world has to offer.
According to organicconsumers.com, Michigan Democrats Rep. John Dingell, chairman of the committee on Energy and Commerce, and Rep. Bart Stupak, who chairs a subcommittee, on Thursday sent letters to seven major manufacturers of infant formula, including Nestle USA and Abbott, demanding answers about the companies’ use and knowledge of the chemical bisphenol A.”
A little scary to be sure, to make sure you keep your ears open for what’s been found, and continue on in your hunt for what you feel will be best for baby, never mind tradition.
