Let Everyone Eat Fresh Fruits!
For quite a long while there has been a sort of understanding that only the well-off, financially-speaking, are truly able to enjoy the delight of freshly grown fruits and vegetables. The rest of the populace, college students, poorer families and the like, tend to have to eat the cheap menu-items from various fast food establishments. McDonald’s current offering of two Big Mac’s for $3? Sounds good when you’re making a meal between classes and based on the quarters found in your couch cushions, or coming home from a long day at work to a family who’s hungry for dinner, and craving protein at that.
However, now there are vouchers that will at least help those low-income families who want to be able to eat the fresh fruits and vegetables that all human bodies need to function at their highest capacity. In December, the United States Department of Agriculture revised a plan for the Women, Infants and Children (W.I.C.) program, allowing for the inclusion of fresh fruits and vegetables in addition to the fruit juices and carrots that had always been included for breast-feeding women. One small, but very important step, for the benefit of the entire country.
