Japan has announced that they have suspended the import of beef from the United States due to a US meatpacking plant that violated a bilateral accord aimed at limiting the threat that is being posed by mad cow disease. The farm ministry that was in charge of making this announcement, also said that part of a consignment of beef from a Cargill Inc. Plant in Dodge City, Kansas had arrived at Kobe port on September 20 with blank safety certificates.  The announcement went on emphasizing that the shipment violates the accord due to the fact that the products came from cattle of an unknown age.
